On a 50Mb/s plan, the bloke reckoned our line could take 100Mb/s which is obviously untrue. Currently working with them to get it sorted.

Hey all,

I have a quick question as we are now able to get NBN at our place it will be FTTN, i am currently on ADSL2+ (Telstra) and my DL speed is about 3.90Mbps and UL is about 0.86Mbps, yes yes stop laughing now. But my ping is about 9ms and you can see that when i am connected to the wasteland server.

My question is will i see a slight improvement with my ping or the same ?, i will be happy if it remains the same or slightly better. The reason i am asking is i have heard horror stories that some people have worse pings when they have switched over to NBN. I know they are two different types of technology and i have interleaving switched off, with it on my ping jumps to about 20ms, i prefer better pings than faster DL as i dont DL that much.

Just thought i would ask here from everyone's experience that has switched over to NBN if they noticed any difference regarding pings, i know DL speed will be better.

Cheers.

@GIGROLL` One would assume (ADSL2+ vs VDSL2) that your ping 'should' be better and the ping stability 'should' greatly improve (jitter) on the NBN (VDSL2)... but in saying that, if you are not a heavy download user, then I would stick with your ADSL2+ and 9ms ping (from what I have read, ADSL2+ is more tolerable of line noise than VDSL2 is... the further away from the exchange you are, the worse the signal).

TBH, you're better off posting your question on the Whirlpool Forums to get a more accurate answer.

Telstra Cable Extreme in Melbourne... and this is with a 1.45 MB/s download running on the machine next to me and this machine uploading a binary at 580 KB/s to the UK. Usually up around 118 Mb/s

@bigAPE Telstra cable has been my best internet provider to date. Support wise also, they have been very helpful in the past. I would absolutely <3 a 1gbit duplex fiber line though (FTTP, one can dream right?)

Agreed. Best Internet service I've had anywhere in the world.
